LANXESS Corp., a global specialty chemicals producer with strong ties to the automotive industry, has partnered with ARISE Detroit! to provide nearly 800 book bags and school supplies to seven Detroit community groups dedicated to helping city children.
Flemming B. Bjoernslev, president and CEO of LANXESS Corp.
and employee volunteers will spend the day filling the bags with pens, pencils,
notebooks, calculators and periodic tables followed by a special presentation at
a news conference Monday, August 26, at the Wellness
Annex of the Samaritan Center at 3:30 p.m. The center is located at 5555
Conner St., 48213 on Detroit’s east side. Representatives and
volunteers from the organizations along with children receiving the filled book
bags will be on hand.
“LANXESS is proud to partner
with ARISE Detroit!, an organization committed to making a positive impact
within the community,” said Flemming B. Bjoernslev, president and CEO of LANXESS
Corp. “Education is one of LANXESS’ core values. We
want to play an integral role in furthering the education of young people in the
region.”
LANXESS is providing the school supplies in connection
with their Automotive Day Detroit conference to be held at the Westin Book
Cadillac Hotel on August 27. The industry platform brings
together experts from the automotive industry, engineers, government and media
representatives focusing on new technologies that enable manufacturers to meet
the standards for CAFE and greenhouse emissions.
“We are thrilled that LANXESS Corp. has extended a hand to
help Detroit’s school children and glad that ARISE Detroit! can play a
supporting role in that effort,” said Luther Keith, executive director of ARISE
Detroit! “This is another strong indication that as Detroiters help themselves;
others will step forward to help in the city’s comeback effort.”
